Great Horned Owl
Another great tutorial with you Jane! I haven’t forgotten how much I enjoy taking them, as I dived right in.
Here in Oregon, there are no Eurasian Eagle Owls, so I decided to paint the Great Horned Owl instead, as they are very abundant here in the Northwest. Both owls have fantastic plumicorns, which is what originally drew me to this class and also funny, as this is the area I struggled with the most.
The Great Horned Owl has horizontal feather bracketing instead of vertical like the Eagle Owl, but I opted not to add anything more to my owl as I rather like how the body turned out. I’m learning not to fuss, if I don’t have too….lol…..
Another difference between the two owls is eye color. The great horned is more a yellow color, and the eagle owl more orange. The great horned owl is considered the fiercest owl in the world, whereas the Eagle Owl is the largest owl in the world. Fun to learn as I paint, my knowledge of owls is now enhanced.
Thank you Jane, I have learned so much from you this past year!
