Wow.. what a journey this painting has been! I am trying to challenge myself this year, and this is my first attempt at painting anything this big (18" x 24"). The challenge with painting this so large was that the paint began to dry faster than I could lay it down, e.g., with those sepals. I sometimes felt like I was battling with the paint, but I eventually worked it out. After I was completely done, I wasn't real crazy about my stamens. They didn't pop and weren't detailed enough. So I totally concentrated on the reference photo and did another layer to pull out some more details. I also did another layer for those yellowy-brown spots as they weren't dark enough the first go-around. Krzys, thank you so much for breaking this class out into manageable lessons, as you always do so brilliantly. I am glad I used your rhododendron class to paint my first large painting. :)
