Thank you so much for persisting with this project, Carmen! I also felt that this painting took longer and required more concentration than anticipated, but I believe the ‘fruits’ of our labor are worth the effort. Your result is fabulous! White gouache can indeed be a tricky one (Not that I can see an issue with it in your painting). Because when it is wet, it looks like pure white only for it to dry transparent, and then like you said when it’s too thick, it makes a dry brush effect. There is a sweet spot in between it being too wet and too thick, but there’s no easy way around it other than trying to memorise the correct consistency through frequent use. I aim for a consistency that is the strongest it can be before it turns to dry brush. I also have a piece of card, in which I sometimes used to spread the paint out if it’s too wet as a quick way to dry it. It’s already covered with dry gouache from previous painting session, so it absorbs the moisture and balances out the consistency quite effectively.

Struggled a bit but did complete. Trying to catch up on your classes I have missed. My white gouache sort of fades away once applied if I use it thick out of tube is more dry brush but if I use with some water is more like grey sludge!
