From Plain to Decorative - A Simple Coffee Cup

I had to get a bit creative with wrapping the pattern around a cup. The Mesh tool in Affinity Photo was just not up to it. The curvature of the cup was too problematic.
In the end I resorted to using Cheetah 3D to wrap the pattern around a tapered cylinder, and used the rendering of this, I fine tuned the render in Affinity Photo using the Mesh tool.
Creating the mask was straight forward thanks to the lessons in this class.
So here is the original photo I took of the cup...
And seeing I had some chevron patterns laying around from the golden ratio classes I teach here on Skillshare, I decided to wrap them around the cup...
And just for fun, I thought I'd throw in another design I had...
And that is how I spent some of my afternoon today!
This is the Cheetah 3D stage. The tapered tube was aligned to the original photo before rendering, then in Affinity Photo, the mask was applied.
The next stage is to work on the shadows and lighting. For example, I can add a hint of a drop shadow to the lid and play around with the white background.
