From Palette to Page: Colour theory for Adult Colourists
Course Description:
Have you found a colour scheme palette that you have fallen in love with but then struggled on how to take that palette and apply it to your colouring page?
In this class, I am going to take you through my process of taking a colour scheme palette I have fallen in love with, from the palette to the final page.
The course will cover:
- Colour theory basics
- Analysing the colours in the palette
- Which colours to use as your base & accent colours
- How to choose additional colours to add to your work
- Balancing the colour proportions in your work
While this course is aimed at adult colourists, the knowledge gained can be applied to any work where you are wanting to take colours from a colour palette and apply it to your work.
Project:
For this project, we will take one picture and colour it with multiple variations of your chosen colour palette. This project will look at the effect that changing the base and pop colours have on the overall look and feel of the finished colouring.
This project has 2 steps:
1. Choose your colour palette
You can use one of the suggested colour palettes or choose one that you have seen on another site. Please link to your colour palette in your project so that we can see the original colours you are working from
2. Colour a page in four different ways using your colour palette
For this step, you will colour a page in four different combinations of the same colour palette. You can use the supplied colouring page or your another colouring page you have & divide it into quarters (please cite the artist and book the image is from in order to give the artist credit).
Here are some different ways you can vary the colour schemes
- Choose different Base & Pop colours from within the palette
- Add an extra colour or two to your palette
- Use a small subset of the palette's colours
Deliverables:
- Link to chosen colour palette (if using a supplied palette, then the name should be enough)
- Finished colouring page (please cite artist & book if using a different colouring page)
