Freeing myself

Freeing myself - student project

Thank you for helping me connect with myself. I learned things about me that I didn’t realize were really there, so I decided to free myself a bit, to open up and let people in.

I loved this class, and I think I did all and the further I got into the class the easier it became to write. So here are a few of the things I wrote. I couldn’t help rhyming a lot. 😆

Not trusting my body

My body is in rebellion, unsure of what to do, because it only knows to keep pushing through. Yet how to act it can’t remember, for the thoughts inside cause me to tremble.

Socializing is a subject in which I am not clever, awkwardly speaking to those I want to be my friends, even though I know they will just leave me again. With my whole soul I long for others, even though I get looked over. Although when I am out you might not see, for I attempt to carry myself with confidence even though I am weeping, my once solid facade now slowly breaking, makes me wonder if trying again is a chance worth taking.

Another rejection, another sting, I do sometimes wonder if that is all this world brings. The silence is real, a story untold, even though under its weight I feel like I’ll fold.

A still lake

I see a woman who wants to be heard, who can lift up her voice without sounding absurd.

~

A voice that was silenced by another’s words, has found its place in the written worlds.

~

A peace that is hidden behind all the pain,

knowing that God has seen her many tear stains.

~

“My Daughter.” He whispers in her ear.

“When you are speaking, I stop to hear.”

~

“For your voice brings joy to My soul, as I wait to hear your stories told.”

Masks and walls

Inside myself I feel trapped, behind these walls, behind these masks.

You ask me to let down my walls,

to a place with forbidden falls,

the place that to the adventurer calls.

Behind these walls there is a town in which there is no sound.

Walk these streets, walk these halls, but never look past those falls.

In the shadow, in the dark, never shall you bring a spark.

For if you do you’ll find me there with all the wild I hid inside, the part I didn’t think you’d find.

Yet past those rocks and through the trees you still hear a sweet melody.

When you step into the glade you’ll find me dancing beneath the shade.

The light that swirls all around shows glimpses of my other worlds.

The ones I write, where I escape, that take me far beyond this place.

The places you see are the essence of me, a land where I live, the place of my dreams.

My soul is there, my soul is free.

Yet here I ask, can I still be?

Forest

“They say ‘see the forest for the trees.’ But what does that really mean?

See them there tall, bent, and round. Yet it’s only the scars and breaks I see, I question what they hide behind their leaves.

So I don’t look at the trees.

Under the branches I found some girls, who looked just like me though a long time stood in between.

A young child with wild hair, who did what she wanted without a care.

The brave one who’s now below the trees that are crying, as they attempt to drown her curiosity.

One who trusted, I found locked up in the roots.

And yet more still who are now defenseless.

What would happen if I could find them all? Would I love who I am after all?

The feeling of home.

I don’t know who, the most makes me feel like home, for we all continue to come and go.

Mainly it’s the Spirit we carry around, the light and love that somehow abounds.

Because no matter where I am, and no matter who goes, I know I can always return to that feeling of home.

For we laugh and we love, we tease and we bug,

but most of all we give great big hugs.

Where even when I cry my tears you hold me and tell me it is alright to have fears.

Yet home is a safe space, you make me feel heard.

You listen to me and love me. You tell me it is okay to cry even as you wipe my tear filled eyes.

I never wished to be this strong, for I feel like I have suppressed myself all along.
