Foundations of the Self

Foundations of the Self - student project
Series Manifesto: "Foundations of the Self"

Human identity is not a monolithic block, but rather a complex structure erected upon invisible pillars. Foundations of the Self is a visual investigation that uses the abandoned house as a metaphor for vulnerability and the architecture of being. In spaces where the walls have given way and the roof has vanished, the only thing that remains is what the individual chooses to uphold.

Through this series, each artwork functions as a study of a fundamental value—education, faith, family, craft—represented as the foundations that keep us standing when our environment crumbles. It is not about documenting ruin, but about portraying resilience: the search for human dignity and transcendence in the face of the vicissitudes of the outside world.

What is left of us when physical shelter ceases to exist? This series maps that internal geography where the spiritual and the social become the only habitable ground.

Foundation I: Decorum

As the starting point of the series, this piece addresses public identity and academic background as the first stratum of personal construction.

Here, the impeccable suit and the graduation medal operate as symbols of an internal order that defies the chaos of the environment. It is a confrontation between the neatness of the "ought-to-be" and the erosion of physical reality. The artwork compels us to question whether these social labels are masks to hide fragility or if they are, indeed, the armor with which the individual chooses to protect their integrity and project their place in the world.
