This is an example project to accompany my Power Words copywriting class.

I’ve improved each of the snippets of marketing copy below by adding power words from each of the categories we covered in the class.

Curiosity
Before: “Find out how to improve your focus.”
After: “Peek inside the mind of high performers to improve your focus.”
Why it works: Adding the word “peek” makes the reader feel like they’re getting a behind-the-scenes look, which sparks interest.

Excitement
Before: “Try our new workout plan.”
After: “Jump into our hottest workout plan yet!”
Why it works: Using “hottest” adds energy and makes it sound up-to-date.

Trust
Before: “We build websites for small businesses.”
After: “We build trusted websites for small businesses.”
Why it works: Adding “trusted” helps reassure the reader that others already rely on this service.

Urgency
Before: “Register for the webinar.”
After: “Register before midnight to secure your spot.”
Why it works: The phrase “before midnight” creates a clear time limit that pushes the reader to act quickly.

Motivating
Before: “Start writing better emails.”
After: “Unlock your potential to write brilliant emails.”
Why it works: Using “unlock your potential” empowers the reader and makes the task feel achievable and rewarding.

Sensory
Before: “Try our handmade soap.”
After: “Try our handmade soap with rich, creamy lather.”
Why it works: The words “rich” and “creamy” help the reader imagine the texture, making the appeal of the product more immediate.
