Ed J Brown's Flower Power in the Lab

Ed J Brown's Flower Power in the Lab - student project

Hello students!

I thought it was about time that I uploaded my illustration for one of the articles.

Now I won't go into too much detail here, it's best you go though the videos where I explain things in much greater detail.

I went for the article, "FLOWER POWER BLOOMS IN THE LAB"

So I started off with these very basic sketches. Everyone produces sketches of many different kinds, some look fantastic and some look worse than mine! Either way, it's not really important. The whole point of your initial sketches are to give an idea of what you will produce. To tell the director about content and composition. They already know what your finished work looks like, that's why they hired you! So Upload your sketches and be brave!

Your fellow students and I will be here to offer constructive, supportive feedback.

I chose number 3 as the best option and in video 9, "Finalising Your drafts" you can watch me produce this sketch in its entirety, talking you through my decisions and ideas as I go along.

Now for the final, I took this last sketch and completed it digitally. Im really inspired by analogue print techniques in my work, so I often keep things simple. There are only 3 different colours being used in this illustration as well as tonnes of texture.

I hope you like it and I hope it inspires you to produce and upload an illustration of your own!
