Duckface 3

[update 2]

So here's one more duck portrait before I move on to the robin perhaps... I used one of your reference photos and wanted to try adding the legs. Some things I like: the lavender in the brown, the bleeding between the bodies, the eyes, the bill of the right 'person' (my partner said they felt like people).

I need to work on my bill blending (and use thinner pencil marks there). Any other tips for improvement?

Hi Will, I gave it another go and I added my new version. I’m curious to hear your opinion! Although I think technically I made some improvements (more subtle highlights and slightly better blending) I’m not certain it’s better overall. Maybe less charming? Although I like the chap on the right wanting to be in the picture as well. Thank you again as the second time I learnt more and new things.

I enjoyed the class very much, Will! Thank you for the inspiration and great tips and guidance. My ducks are funny and endearing to me. I tried to ignore your brush advice and did almost everything with the big brush (it has a tiny tip after all) but in the end I had to go find a thinner brush. The white in the eyes is still a tad big.
I like that the shapes are quite rough and wonky. Ducks look like ducks pretty soon! It seems this topic could be done over and over again. The bleeding of the beaks needs more practice.
