Class 9- Exploring Culture & Identity in Collage

Wow- an inspiring and exciting class with Froyle. I enjoyed learning about Froyle’s  personal story. It takes alot of courage to do so.

My story is much different. I like the invitation to create your story in collage. I tried to create the collages to show my part of the world and the colors associated with it. And I love gelli printing!

I live in the US- piedmont area-Washington DC- Chesapeake Area. The colors of the ocean are very different from New Zealand.  I love the paua shell- but here we have mother of pearl, wampum, and oyster shell. Here I used vintage mother of pearl buttons and colors of the Atlantic Ocean. And the dark seaweed on the beaches is signified y the black lace square.

I was particularly liked portrait of resilience. It made me think of how resilient people are to arrive where they are, and what ends up as home. I am still not having success with photo transfer- but I keep trying. This is a vintage photo of silent screen star from 1900s.

GREAT NEWS- and Big hugs to you Froyle for surviving the cancer! Your positive attitude, fortitude, support from family and friends- and RESILIENCE got you through it!

Thank you for this amazing class!
