Before I had a chance to illustrate my first children's picture book I didn't feel super comfortable drawing characters. The biggest thing for me was that I didn't feel comfortable making them. It always took me a really long time and I felt like I started from scratch on each project, in regards to style. 

So I started a challenge to draw a character a day in a new style each time. And then I would post it to this Tumblr site. It held me accountable but also let me see my progress over time. 

In the end, it helped me discover a personal style, boosted my confidence, and provided me with a bank of characters I can share to get paid work. Nothing replaces mileage.
