Incredible work and dedication! Thanks for sharing this second portrait work, Paula! It shows a lot of commitment and perseverance, which really counts when tackling a complex scene like this. Even if it didn’t come out quite how you hoped, there’s strong storytelling and composition here, and your figures are coming across well. Layering takes time to master, especially with saturated tones, but every try builds your control and confidence. Keep going because you’re making meaningful progress!

You should feel proud of yourself for sticking with it, Paula, not just once but twice. Impressionistic art aims to evoke emotions from the viewer through the use of color and form, and you have achieved that. My eyes were initially drawn to the wonderful color contrasts in your painting, and I can see that everyone seems to be enjoying their conversations and drinks. Try looking at your painting from a different perspective, even upside down. Focus on a few areas that you feel turned out well and that you like. Remember that this is a complex painting, but you undoubtedly gained valuable experience with each brushstroke. :):):)

Well done!! I thought this class looked hard!

This is my second attempt at this subject. It still feels very overwrought and muddy. Not my favorite work. I can't seem to get the saturated layering technique to work very well. Paula
