This is really great Jen. I love that your Grandmother's butterfly is part of this beautifully done Journal cover. Awesome.

Thanks :)She loved warm oranges and browns.  You know, this butterfly has been bouncing around in various boxes for years. I couldn't figure out why she never used it. Then I tried to glue it down and found that the fabric must have shifted when she cut it out. Kind of feels like I "fixed" it.

Its very 70's and I'm glad you fixed it and it has a home now.

This is nice, combining the art with poetry. Haiku is so concise, each word carries meaning.

What poetic strength to write a Haiku. I find that genre difficult. I probably abuse words with using too many of them LOL!!. LOVE the artwork too!

Oh dear ... I'll have to change the project title .... the haiku is by Issa. I was part of an online haiku writing group for a while, though, and it was very rewarding. If I had to write one for today it would be: so much smoke --an orange butterfly lands on the birdbath

Thanks Holly :) I used to write a lot of haiku ... maybe this journal should be used for illustrated haiku? That could be fun!  If I were to write a haiku about *today* it would be about the Canadian wildfire smoke. It's awful and will be worse tomorrow. We're considering a long drive *west* to get away from it.  [I guess this makes us temporary climate refugees?] The haze actually stings my eyes, and it smells like plastic, not wood. Guess those are the flame retardants? Anyway... sorry for rambling on!

That sounds truly awful Jen! I hope you find clean air soon. We never used to have many fires in Scotland, but they're pretty common now, not on the scale that you're used to though. I love the idea of designating this book an illustrated haiku one! That sounds wonderful! xxx
