At 17 years old in a small city, itching to get out. I had no idea what was truly out there in this vast world. I was consumed by my menial high school drama, and I was done with it. That’s when I left. I left high school behind, and went on the most life changing trip I could have ever imagined. Rwanda. This turned my world upside down in the best possible way. Boy did this make me grasp a different life. I fell in love. Not with one person, but I fell in love with the country, the culture, the Rwandan people. Their spirit and faith shook me and opened my eyes. These beautiful people went through the worst kind of discrimination. Genocide. But they overcame it. Admiration and love is what I have for them. Compassion and perspective is what I found inside of me.
