Hunk, your edit was amazing, great job! Thanks so much for taking the class and posting a project, I can tell by your project you have a lot of experience with finger boarding edits. The smooth motion caught me by surprise at first and seeing that you edited in a 60p timeline it made sense. I'm curious, are most fingerboard edits you do completed in a 60 fps timeline? Or is this common in the fingerboard community? One thing I wish I did a bit differently with the filming was to include higher shutter shots, but this was a nice option to create a smoother look with the 60p export, to make the fast paced action easier to view. The amount of work put into those board spin sequences really paid off, I love the way you created those segments and reintroduced them at the end. The first shots design, the contrast you created by darkening the background, adding digital noise overlays for foreground elements and the canted motion, so many layers and interest to this shot, this could be a print ad on its own, I loved it! The blue tint paired well with the musical vibe, and the blueish glitch effects, well done there, I love that you stuck to a solid theme and consistency throughout, a strong choice and it's easy to follow and interesting stylistically. I'm not sure if some of the shots highlights were blown out (coulda been my bad!) but bringing the highlights and whites down in some shots could possibly help a bit for a smoother roll off and more professional look. Also, the rainbow board shot might have a LUT on it? These were the only shots that didn't need LUTs since they had already been processed to include the alpha channel. Sound effects, were perfectly timed, and I barely noticed them which is exactly what you want for something like this, they sounded real and natural and I forgot that I was watching a fingerboard. The rhythm you created was effective, I do appreciate that you broke up the tricks with some cutaway segments and not just any, the way you did it felt purposeful in a sort of foreshadowing way I guess? It's great that you gave it meaning! This helped create that pleasing rollercoaster ride. I really like this entry, very well done!

Thank you for the awesome feedback! I find that since so much is happening in fingerboarding in such a short period of time, most people tend to edit in 60 fps so that all of the action gets captured. It definitely helps putting some of the shots in slo-mo but I find when the tricks are filmed at regular speed, it can be hard to tell what the trick was when the frame rate is lower at 30fps or 24fps Yeah I really tried to introduce each obstacle with some cutaway shots to foreshadow the next trick! I felt it helped the pacing and told a bit of a story  I think I may have went a bit overboard with the exposure on some of these shots so that's probably why some look a bit blown out hahaha but I really appreciate you pointing that out! I noticed each shot's lighting was a bit different so I did my best to make all the shots match but I can see how on some of them I could tone down the highlights And yeah I did accidentally add a LUT to the rainbow board, good catch! I didn't notice that while I was editing but I can definitely see it now Again, thank you so much for giving such a detailed response! I'm looking forward to checking out your other courses!

Ah, yes, I see, that's a smart way to go about being able to see the action, next time I film I may try to film more consistently in a higher frame rate. Yes, all of the shots were subtly different and the small prop led spot lights paired with my exposure may have been the culprit with challenging colour conditions, but I think it still looked good overall. Had a lot of fun working on this project! I found out about this course through Barnyard Fingerboards’ instagram page. I’m used to editing skateboard videos so adding in the sound effects after the fact was an interesting challenge. All of the audio mixing tips in this course were incredibly helpful and I’ll definitely be checking out more of Sean’s courses in the future!
