Art Quickies: Sparks of Intuition

Thanks Jerney for teaching us to trust quicker, more instinctive ways of creating art. This class includes playful ways that grow right out of multi-media markings and painting. The class is great and helps me stay creative. This class has been nothing but a series of sparks—each exercise triggering my creative intuition in a new way.

Below is the Quick start: is a 4x4.5 inches. The dog appeared after applying the yellow watercolor wash, the rest evolved from that.

Patchwork portrait 4x4 inch. Used watercolor, acrylic, ink, gel pen and dried clover flower.

Word play: above are the baseline sketches which have interesting faces. Then I added a second layer. Again I see so many figures. So much fun. I used oil patels, ink and acrylic.

Masking tape abstract. I really enjoyed this one. Did both before bed and I was pleasant surprised the next morning.  Acrylics,Warm and Cool dreamers. 6X4.5 inch mixed media paper.

Bad drawing: Started as loose scribbles. It was hard not to feel like a child drawing...l was laughing from pure joy...

Paint without a brush. So happy to experience what simple twigs, grass and paint can accomplish.

Loose lines with twig art. Cockatiel napping on the mantel.  I got carried away with the crest... Oh well.. I enjoyed it.

Collage mark making. I added markings and color harmony learned from other courses.  Very intriguing to see what was going to appear... I was pleasantly surprised.

Below are 'Just play':  mixed‑media exercise on a watercolor background, crayon, watercolor pencil and ink. Very rewarding...

The grungy ink‑staining on gesso: Two paintings,  (The lady and the bee & Scarecrow). I used gray graphite and watercolor pencil.  Both were small, intuitive explorations, each one letting the imagery emerge on its own. I am getting more confident with black ink.

Transparent brougth the Chick on the dark and the Geisha (using an Eviston's  class gestures drawing as a collage).

Soft pastels: I used my mom black and white photo and used negative painting.

Being messy turned into a little Mother Nature. I think it is my favorite.

Pattern Play was surprisingly rewarding, I was in a trance.

Marks & Layers became intuitive acrylics:  Brought an abstract burst of a horse (After Winning the Night Race) and another abstract with joyful colors.

During the palm‑reading quick paint, I laid down a simple wash and suddenly a parrot appeared. I used to have an Eclectus, so I followed that spark and let the image grow. It felt like the painting was remembering for me.

Texture adventure, brought a lot of emotion. I used my old acrylic mixing palette to draw the lines, and after a wash, the hidden images appeare that echoed the remote‑healing meditation exercise I practice. It felt intuitive, and a soft confirmation of what I’ve been sensing.
