Adventure Seed

Hi Jeremy, first of all I want to thank you for this class that I've found very usefull :)

I would like to share with you the product I've made with your help. I am a french student (in nothing near graphic design/illustration) and art is my passion, even though I tend to struggle with my inner critic and my creativity. During the lockdown, my fiancé decided to work on a project he began 3 years ago but left at early stages. He motivated me to dust Illustrator and my pen tablet and join him on his journey. I accepted to create a logo according to his plan.

The brief was :

  • Adventure Seed is a self-hosted role playing web assistant.
  • It should be fun and inviting (as the current ones look more professionnal and not easily accessible).
  • It must include at least a seed and some leaves (the first logo).
  • It should be an illustrated game logo with gradients and textures but with a modern twist, less like a tool more like a game.

So we sketched together basic ideas, I searched for references and found a couple that stoud out for both of us. I chose two fonts : Riffic (a typical Adventure font) and Ribbons and banners (I liked how organic and edgy it looked). We decided to go for a low-poly-gradient look, partially inspired by Sue Gibbins class on botanical brushes. I chose a first color palette to work from on pinterest, with tropical colors and warm tones. I tweaked the fonts, applied your technics on the letters (like the wavy gradients) and curved the logo to make it more dynamic.

I wanted to twist a plant around a stone. This plant could come out of a golden seed with 20 sided dice as its flower. I worked on the low poly stone aside and made the text a little warmer.. It still did look still and dull to me so I knew the following step was changing the colors.

Finally I showcased my logo on a blurred map (from my fiancé's favorite universe), I did a little outline in color dodge mode and a discrete white gaussian blur under it to make it stand out more.

I am proud to show you my final result, let me know what you think about it !
