A Wonderful Mess of Learning
I became very sad just before writing this because I realized I had not poured my tea and the kettle had gone cold :’( But now a new pot of water is slowly coming to a boil, and I should have time to talk a bit before it screams and I am lost in the world of honey-sweet, milky, green/white earl grey.
I really enjoy making different anthropomorphic characters... which may have been my downfall as all of my first designs look more or less the same proportionally and characteristically, except for small changes such as the heads, the position of the hands, and minor feet problems. Nevertheless, I forged on. I did this exercise completely digitally, which means I drew out a grid, drew my characters one by one, and then mixed and matched until I was happy with the outcome XD.
These are the designs before mixing:

And this is after mixing and matching everyone!

I ended up taking the cat-headed creature, fixed her proportionately, and changed the clothing a bit to suit my mood better. I kept the two tails, but turned them into cat tails. Now she is a nekomata ;)
I sadly did not make up a story for this exercise because I am currently involved in the creation of two other universes with their own casts of characters, and although I love thinking up new characters, it does become exhausting. This exercise was actually my break from an afternoon of worldbuilding and business classes, so I focused more on the aesthetic I wanted to create. (Although her name is Morinne)
This is her all dolled up and coloured, which took much too long because this was my first time animating more than two frames:

She is seven frames in all, although most of those are duplicated because of how Procreate does the frames you can only set them to all be so many seconds per frame so if you want a faster frame (such as a fast flick between a tail being up and being down) you have to duplicate frames and turn the fps up so you can get that effect and aaaaaa it is a Thing I did not appreciate very much.
I hope you enjoy your own project, and are able to have some quiet, creative time making something fantastical!
