Update: Day 3 2/15

Came back today to wrap up with the class. I chose the 3rd painting and my favorite birdie as my final painting for this class.  I was excited to see how wetting the paper under the faucet, after the painting is started, and then placing it on a wet towel to paint works out.  It works great as it keeps the paper flat and no need to use tape.

 I always struggle with 2nd layers doing wet on wet, and this painting was no exception.  I do better if I finish most of the painting on the initial layer and leave only some areas for 2nd or 3rd layers.  Overall, it still turned out ok, but I needed to futz with it too much (or I chose to lol)....

I love the background you used for this painting Evgenia.  It is so colorful and full of surprises (part of watercolor fun).  The one area I don't have luck in is using masking fluid for snow.  I did it anyway, but after completion I've decided I'm just not that good at making it work.  

Thank you Evgenia for putting together such a nice collection of work.  You guidance is superb.  :)

 

Day 2 2/14 Happy Valentine's Day- Decided to sit the robin on a stump for the third painting.  Now that I re-warmed myself to watercolor again, I am going to follow your tutorial and paint the third bird in the series tomorrow.  I am anxious to try watering the paper as you do and placing in on a damp towel.

Day 1 2/13- Your classes are wonderful Evgenia.  Painting these two little robins made for a wonderful afternoon spent with you.  I didn't use the same techniques, but I still learned by watching and can use on future projects.  This is my first watercolor in a few weeks and it sure felt good!  I decided to stick with the loose watercolor and just let the paints flow and stick with a subdued color palette, these were the perfect size paintings to do just that. I used Cad Yellow, Shadow Violet, Quin Rose & just a little Indigo and a tad white gouache.  I haven't started the 3rd little one yet, still deciding if I will paint it sitting on a stump or with the pine leaves.  Posting the first two for now.
