Yup that would work too! Bake the bread slices first before assembling the rest. However, be sure you give the sandwich  a good squeeze before baking the second time to make sure the bread sticks well to its contents

Aha! I'm baking my second batch now with this method and see the problem with pre-baking the bread. The bread is already pulling itself apart.... tried to take it out mid-bake to squeeze, but it wouldn't hold. Not sure how to solve this problem! I don't know why my bread looks so soft and curvy :(

To solve it, you can try putting super glue to save the piece you’ve already baked at the moment. 

As for the bread, perhaps your clay is too soft so when you lift it up after texturing and shading, it might warp and not hold its shape. To solve this, you can try putting your bread slices in the fridge because the coolness will help the oils solidify a bit, making the bread stiffer.

Also, you can invest in liquid clay that works as a glue that bonds two baked/unbaked clay.

I wonder how I can keep the firmness of the bread. It looks like soft tofu. Perhaps I can bake the bread first, then assemble?
