Inspiration à l'aquarelle pour les débutants

Hi again Lili! Again another beautiful piece of work. I saw your feedback that this class might be a little challenging for someone who is an absolute beginner, and I take that to heart. Thank you for your honesty and for trusting the process! Despite the fact that you’re an absolute beginner, you really did a great job on this. I was really hoping that people just like yourself would take the leap and give this a try and surprise themselves with how well they could do. Your core shadows and highlights are very convincing, making the shells look gently rounded and realistic. Your colors are all wonderful… Actually pretty perfect I’d say. If you wanted to take this a step further, I would recommend adding a few more very fine lines to the top shell. You may also be able to re-blend the left outside edges of the cast shadows. Sometimes the color stains the paper so this is not possible, but sometimes it’s possible to lift and blend color even when it’s completely dry and has been for a while. You can achieve this with a moist (not just damp and not sopping wet) round brush, straddling the exterior edge so that half the brush is on the absolute white part of the paper and the other half is inside the left most part of the shadow. Then drag your brush very gently along that edge. You will need to do this a few times to have an effect, if it can have an effect at all.  Watercolor is very finicky, as I’m sure you have found out,so you never really know what’s going to happen until you do it. If you wanted to try, you certainly can. Otherwise, I think this is an incredibly successful first watercolor. You should be very proud of it. I hope you continue making art, and thank you again for taking my class!

Thanks a lot for your comment. I really appreciate it. As I said on the other reply, I am not an absolute beginner except if we say that not be able to sit and paint for almost 2 years is quite like it. I even had forgotten how much water on the brush I needed ... Your words are heartening and I will keep trying to put colours on paper as well as charcoal. Can you imagine doing both on the same subject ? Does it exist ? Would it be messy and dull ?

Thank you for your teaching. I did not have time for water colour for the last 12 months so I tried to reconnect with your shells. It was a pleasure !
