Emily, thank you for taking the time to explain the differences in both methods. The long answer is much appreciated. I'm going to work through your classes first and see how I get on.

Hi Sabina, Nice work here. Great that you left the lines in, both for me to see but also as a diagram for you to refer back to and remember the basic proportions. Regarding your comment, the placement of the features is generally the same for the 3D head as the 2D head (when it is not tilted up and down) Ie. The thirds of the face (hairline, nose, chin) still apply. The way you've placed them in your drawing looks pretty good. This is as far as I go with teaching the 3D head for portraits as I focus on teaching observational drawing. The problem with Loomis method and other variations of the 3D head is, it's difficult to draw it exactly right to fit a real person until you've had heaps of experience drawing portraits and 3D forms. It's very useful for drawing heads from imagination and also for visualising the person you are drawing in a different way eg. thinking about the side plane of the head and the slight curve of the front of the face.  Beyond that, a successful portrait comes down to observation skills. What are the distances between the particular features, how do the features line up with each other or form a triangle? Etc There may be teachers who disagree with me about how useful the 3D head is. It is good in theory and it is a fun process to follow and produces a head with a sense of depth which is an achievement. But in my experience I'm yet to see a beginner who can use it more effectively than the 2D method to get an accurate drawing of a real person :) Sorry for the long answer, short answer is no, not covered in any of my other classes :D But if you feel an affinity for it you should definitely check out Loomis head, Reilly rhythms, Asaro head videos on Skillshare or Youtube for more on 3D head methods.
