 Hello! I'm Michelle Perkett @michelle_perkett

My art business started in the US Air Force where my first job was a Graphic Artist. I worked in Corporate Graphic Design for 10 years but I was an illustrator at heart so I earned my BFA in Illustration and started my art business.

I created a line of cards and art prints working mostly in Photoshop and in 2013 I began licensing my designs as rubber and digital stamps.

But soon after I began caregiving for my Mom who had developed Dementia and my art was put on hold.

What truly kept me in the art "loop" while caregiving were all the amazing art classes here on Skillshare. I was so exhaused on a daily basis, too tired to paint, so I watched hours and hours of classes here to keep me company and made me feel like I was part of a really amazing art community.

During that time I watched so many floral painting classes here which inspired me to give myself a 30 Day Sketchbook Floral Painting Challenge and from that my love of painting florals began and I've been painting them ever since.

My Mom passed in 2018 and a year after that I saw the pie chart of the number of classes I had viewed here on Skillshare over the years and thought it was about time I used all of those skills that I'd learned and put them to good use and create my own class. So that's what I did and never knew how much I loved teaching, filming, editing and helping my students learn how to create and paint something new.

in 2020, I created my first class, “Acrylic Florals and Layering Techniques.” But soon after, when creating my second Skillshare class, I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and underwent surgery and months of chemo. But after recovering during 2021 I was ready to get back to my new found love, teaching.

In March of 2022 I published my second class, “Let’s Paint a Whimsical Mixed Media Journal Girl” and two weeks later, “Acrylic Painting: Loosen Up Your Style, Let’s Paint an Art Journal Angel.” 

I now teach 4 Skillshare classes with more on the way.  I hope you will join me, thanks for reading my story!
