Prompt 1. Favourite fruit 12 ways (or 13 in my case)

I explored pen, pencil, printing (with a lime) and digital drawing.

 

Prompt 2. 25 lines

I developed these line ideas further by using them to fill leaf shapes.

Prompt 3. Draw favourite flower with both hands.

I'm right handed and don't have much pen control with my left. I have to really take my time if my writing is to be legible with my left hand. This first drawing of a hydrangea I did for a client project yesterday and thought I'd try re-drawing it left handed. I had hydrangeas in my wedding bouquet so a favourite flower but not a favourite to draw! My normal process for drawing is to sketch in pencil and then draw over the lines in pen. Since doing this workshop I've experimented with going straight to ink and I'm really pleased how this turned out. I spent time and went quite slowly which I thought may defeat the object of the experiment, so I did a second drawing of a poppy relatively quickly first right handed, then copied using my left. This was helpful for loosening up and something I'll consider doing as a warm up before drawing final pieces.

 

Prompt 4. Subtle bouquet

I started by looking at bouquets on Pinterest and comparing to find out what made a bouquet subtle. For me, it is subdued colours with similar levels and low contrast. Flowers with similar sizes and simple shapes. 

 

 

I then sketched various florals and foliage.

 

Each illustration was scanned and digitised.

 

I picked some of the sketches and arranged them into a simple bouquet and coloured them in photoshop with a subtle colour palette.

 

 

Prompt 5. Bold bouquet 

I love these contrasting colours and the busyness of the bouquets with lots of different flowers and foliage. 

From the sketches I shared in the subtle bouquet section, I created a bold and busy arrangement inspired by the mood board above.

Scavenger Hunt

Well this was a fun exercise! I looked through my Pinterest boards to find examples of what elements I'm drawn to. I've chosen to focus on line, texture and colour. 

 

Line: I prefer hand drawn lines that are simple, organic and not too bold. Sketchy pencil and inky dip pen doodles are my favourite. I also like lines and marks used to show texture and form.

 

Texture: As well as hand drawn lines implying texture I also like the unevenness and patchiness of printed inks to add interest.

Colour:  I'm drawn to muted and desaturated colour with a minimal palette. I like the idea of using varying shades of the same hue to add depth and subtle contrast.

I've posted the process of creating my flower vases in Peggy's 'Find your creative style' workshop, and thought I'd post my second attempt of plant pots here. I created these using a limited colour palette.

After going through the rest of Peggy's 'Find your creative style', I've ended up with this loose sketchy style that I'm loving. I'm hoping to develop this style further through the workshop prompts.
