Winter watercolour scene
I was looking for a winter scene sort of class when your new class notification popped up! Great timing. :)
This one was a challenge for me. I’m not great at landscapes yet, so that is a challenge in itself. But I just got a 12” x 16” block of paper in the mail last week, so thought this would be the perfect project to try out the larger paper on. I found that challenging in that it’s a bit more to think about when covering more ground, so to speak, but at the same time also easier to have more space to work with.
Then challenge number 3 occurred when I dropped the cap of my neutral tint right in a light part of the sky, and it left a black cap-sized ring! I managed to get most of that out and disguised the rest.
So all in all a good brain stretch. I hadn’t seen that technique of painting in a line of water for a tree, waiting a few seconds, then firmly scrubbing it off. I’ve lifted paint off before (like the aforementioned paint cap fiasco) by brushing, dabbing, brushing, dabbing, etc, but this way you showed for the trees is much more direct. Thanks for showing us that!
Despite everything I’m generally pleased with the outcome I’d say. I messed up the large tree on the right and my windows are a bit askew, but it was a lot to think about. Suggestions for improvement are welcome, as always.
Thank you Will for another excellent class!
