Will Picasso weep?

Will Picasso weep? - image 1 - student project

Dear Picasso,

Remember that time I went to the National Gallery in DC to see a rare collection of Pre-Raphaelite art? Remember how your show lurked in the New Wing of that museum? I was promised a re-visit to the Pre-Raphaelites the next week, because my hubs is a big admirer of your art. I gave in, and wandered around the Picasso exhibit. When we went back the next week, the Victorian artists were gone. I've held that against you, Picasso. It took me a couple years before I was able to wander around London museums to see the paintings I loved from the literary period I studied for my graduate degree.

So there! I did not start this project, Picasso, with any intent to do injustice toany "Weeping Woman" painting. I saw Guernica while it was still in NY at MOMA. When I read about the women and their sorrow due to Guernica, I was deeply moved.

I will admit, Picasso, I could not even imitate your work. Sorry about that. I misplaced the marker I wanted. I used painted vellum as a fancy touch over the woman even though I could have simply done as my teacher suggested. But, "things fall apart," and the only center that held in this, I believe, are the tears. Sorry about the rest. But the eyes and lips are sorta ok. Maybe.

Sincerely

Judith Williamson-Batson

PS My teacher, Elisabeth, is a much better source of information about you than the museum exhibit signs. It's thanks to her that I actually learned more about you and felt prompted to wander around and do research on my own. I do not dislike you now, especially after that trip to London.
