Updated Bull Highland Cow on acrylic
For this project I used 24 × 18‑inch oil‑painting paper, instead of canvas, with a linen finish, a surface that supported the layered approach I explored throughout the work. I was very excited when I saw this course, the teacher’ paint looked so appealing to me. Acrylics often feel less malleable to me, and I tend to struggle with overworking the layers, but this course introduced techniques that helped me approach the medium with more ease (like layering the horns and the nose and the smooth fur).
Below I included the initial studies, I worked with charcoal to understand the cow’s structure and to practice the early stages of the painting. I chose to begin the base layer with black gesso rather than mixing black paint, especially since I was using fluid acrylics (I did not have regular tubes).

I did have to adjust the nose and the cheeks becasue I lost the drawing shape.
