Triangulation Dialogue Exercise

*ping* "Hey."
His phone lit the room before the crack of dawn. "Hey yourself." He smiled thinking of her charming glow.
*ping* "We need to talk."
"Okay." His lips pursed. She could never be direct.
*ping* "I need to tell you something."
"Okay." He sat up, feet tapping with impatience.
*ping* "I'm late."
Dread blew a hole in his stomach. "To what?"
The silence stretched for years.
*ping* "I'm late." Accompanied by a picture. A monochrome building towered above her. 'M.I.T.' was plastered above the doorway.
His heart sank into the pit. The Miratech Institute of Transhumanism. "Oh."
Notifications ceased. He stewed in his room for hours, pacing and muttering under his breath. She said she wasn't serious. She said it was all jokes. She's heading into the blender. No, diving head first. She knows she won't come back. They call them angels. Bile twisted in his gut at the thought. Even success only produced a brand new being, an amalgamation of souls. She'd be lost forever. Maybe she will be incompatible...
*ping* The noise jolted him back to reality.
"So I took the test. And it's positive."
Tears fell from his face before he could process the words. "You're positive? I mean, you're sure?"
*ping* "Yes."
