Travel Postcard

Travel Postcard - student project

I had a lot of fun with this project. Thank you Sean for this course and your valuable tips. I don't usually take a picture like that, so I've tried a lot. My artwork is a travel postcard. Since there is a lot of white space around the subject, it was a little challenge to drape something there, which is why I sometimes worked with objects on the card.

I made this travel postcard after our last trip to China. We were in Sichuan and made a trip from Guilin to Yangshuo. It was fantastic. Exploring the river and the surrounding area on this raft was amazing. Apart from the engine noise, there was a heavenly calm, everything was peaceful and harmonious. I wanted to express that with my small (stylized) illustration and that should also be reflected in photography.

I know the chopsticks dominate the picture a bit, but it has an interesting dynamic.

I love china. And since I have a garden, I absolutely had to plant bamboo. It serves as my background here.

It is difficult for me to estimate when white is too bright or too gray. Sometimes it looks too dark, but if i only make it a little brighter it´s too bright ...

And here are a few more experiments.

I like the picture with the water splashes. There is one crucial mistake, but I like the look :)

I also liked putting the postcards on a travel card or an old suitcase.

I took the photos with my Sony alpha 57, 35 mm lens. I tried something out with the aperture. It is between f / 3 and f / 8, ISO 100.
