Tonal Studies of Fruit Veg and Vase
This was a really enjoyable exercise which is considerably faster than trying to tackle the same subject matter on white paper. Although I got flustered at times the results were lovely to see. This type of exercise has helped a lot with my own watercolor practice by helping me to pick out areas of high contrast.
It was marvellous how the white highlights of the grapes and the sides that face the light on slices of apple really jumped off the page.
I think simplicity is the key as my favourite tomato is on the top left and the garlic was the very last one I sketches at the bottom.
This vase was a delight to capture with minimal areas of white Post for the high shines. And I really surprise myself by producing this sketch fast.
