Thoreau's Moral Philosophy & Modern Democracy

Thoreau's Moral Philosophy & Modern Democracy - student project

Pitch: Thoreau's Moral Philosophy & Modern Democracy

Mr. ____,

I'm a staff writer at _____ Zine and ______ Journal. Where I work on pieces of historical, political, and speculative pieces among others. You can find my work ______________-.

Thoreau is a controversial character who has at once been called both a superb naturalist and lazy idealist with grandiose ideas. However, both of these views fail to examine Thoreau as an individual whose center of morality influenced by the ancient Roman orators and Stoic philosophers applied these ideas to nature and democracy.

In this story I would like to answer the following: Why did Thoreau love nature but leave Walden? Did he really believe in Civil Disobedience? Were nature and democracy just facets of philosophical application in everyday life? Could something else be at play?
