Held together with faded thread

Furrows torn in the fabric

Showing glimpses of graying batting

With the threadbare edges careless to the side

Here the ancient denim of oil-stained jeans

There the graying nursery pattern

A bit of blouse from a long-ago interview

A patch of first-day-of-school dress

Tossed in a heap on the floor
