Tantra Onboarding: The Guided Initiation

Tantra Onboarding: The Guided Initiation - student project

Phase 1: The Awakening (Control Mastery) To prevent user frustration among non-tech-savvy audiences, the journey begins in a "sandbox" or safe training area where users cannot fail.

  • Ved Vyas Ji (Swamiji’s Voice): "Welcome, seeker. I am Ved Vyas. To begin your Sadhana, you must first learn to move through this sacred space. Place your thumb on the lotus at the bottom of your screen".

  • The First Step:

    • Instruction: A large, pulsing arrow appears on the ground pointing forward.

    • Voice: "Slide your thumb upward to walk toward the light".

  • The Turning:

    • Instruction: Once the user moves forward, the arrow points left.

    • Voice: "Now, slide to the left to see the river. Excellent. You are finding your balance".

  • Error Prevention: If the user does not move for 10 seconds, a visual hand icon appears, demonstrating the "drag" motion on the screen.

Phase 2: The Path to the Owl (Recognition & Guidance) Instead of forcing users to remember where the owl is, we use visual cues and the "Companion" to reduce their cognitive burden.

  • Ved Vyas Ji: "You have found your footing. Now, follow the sacred dog. He knows the way to the Wise Owl who guards your initiation".

  • Visual Aid:

    • Glowing golden arrows appear on the path whenever the dog moves.

    • The Dog’s Text Popup (Microcopy)
While "you're going the wrong way" is direct, the sources suggest avoiding language that might feel like "scolding" or "blaming" the user.

      • Before: "Hey, you're going the wrong way."

      • After (Empathetic & Action-Oriented): "This way, seeker! Let's head back to the path." or "The [Samagri Name] is waiting for us this way!"

      • Why it works: It uses active voice and provides a clear next step without making the user feel like they made a mistake.

    • 2. The Voice Chat (Swamiji’s Companion)

    • To keep the experience Perceivable and Understandable (the "P" and "U" in the POUR framework), the dog's voice should provide specific instructions.

      • Script: "Come on! We need to find the [Specific Samagri Name] for the Yagna. I can smell it just up ahead!"

      • Why it works: It uses plain language and repeats the goal, which supports Recognition over Recall—the user doesn't have to remember what they are looking for because the dog tells them exactly what it is.

    • 3. The Directional Arrows (Visual Affordance)
Adding arrows in the top right of the screen is an excellent way to provide Visibility of System Status.

      • Implementation: As the dog speaks, a golden arrow pulses in the top right corner, pointing toward the objective.

      • Why it works: This creates a redundant system of guidance (visual arrow + audio voice + text popup). If the user misses the audio or can't read the text quickly, the arrow provides an immediate, intuitive cue for where to tur

    • 4. Preventing User Frustration (Heuristic #5)
The dog "stopping and barking" acts as a form of Error Prevention Instead of letting the user wander until they get hopelessly lost and quit the app (churn), the dog intervenes early.

      • The Interaction:

  1. Detection: User moves 15-20 feet away from the objective path.

  2. Audio Cue: The dog barks gently (a soft, friendly sound).

  3. Visual Cue: The text bubble pops up: "The path is over here!"

  4. Navigation Cue: Arrows appear in the top right to guide the user's camera/movement back to the dog

Arrival: When the user reaches the Owl, the screen glows softly.

  • Voice: "You have arrived. The Wise Owl is ready. Step closer to begin the sacred puzzle".

Phase 3: The Initiation (The Mantra Puzzle) High-stakes moments like receiving a mantra require the clearest possible instructions to avoid "churn" or users quitting.

  • Ved Vyas Ji: "To receive your mantra, you must first complete the sacred pattern. Drag the pieces of the puzzle into the center to reveal the truth".

  • Puzzle Copy:

    • Main Label: "Arrange the sacred pattern".

    • Empathetic Error Handling: If a piece is placed incorrectly, Ved Vyas Ji says: "That piece belongs elsewhere. Try placing it near the top".

  • The Reward: Once solved, the mantra is spoken clearly.

    • Voice: "The mantra is now yours. This is the seed of your Sadhana. Keep it in your heart".

Phase 4: The Gathering (Samagri Collection)

In this phase, we use the dog as a "living" help system to guide the user toward the chanting ground while simultaneously pointing out the necessary items.

  • Ved Vyas Ji (Swamiji’s Voice): "Your spirit has received the seed of the mantra. Now, we must prepare for the holy fire. Follow the dog to the Chanting Ground. As you walk, keep a watchful eye—the earth offers the herbs and ghee needed for your Yagna."

  • Seamless Guidance:

    • The Companion: The dog runs ahead toward the chanting ground but stops and barks gently near each samagri item.

    • Visual Status: A small, simple checklist stays in the corner (e.g., "Herbs [ ]  Meat [ ]"). This uses Recognition over Recall, so users don't have to remember what they are looking for while navigating.

Phase 5:The Sacred Chanting (Japa Sadhana)

Once the user reaches the chanting ground, the focus shifts entirely to the Japa. This provides a "mental break" from navigation, increasing customer satisfaction.

  • Arrival at the Chanting Ground: The dog sits patiently at the entrance.

  • Ved Vyas Ji: "You have reached the sacred grounds. It is time to energize your mantra. Sit in stillness and begin your Japa."

  • Instructional UI:

    • A simple prompt appears: "Tap the beads to begin chanting."

    • Visibility of System Status: A counter or a glowing aura around the character shows their progress through the rounds of Japa.

  • Completion: Once the Japa is finished, Ved Vyas Ji returns: "Your breath and the mantra are now one. You are ready for the final offering at the Yagna Kund."

Phase 6: The Final Steps to the Yagna Kund

Now that the user has their samagri and their "charged" mantra, the final journey is short and focused.

  • Final Navigation: The golden arrows on the ground pulse toward the Yagna fire.

  • Ved Vyas Ji: "The fire is hungry for your devotion. Follow the dog one last time to the Yagna Kund."

  • The Culmination: At the fire, the user sees a single, large button: "Begin Yagna".

Writing Strategy Applied (Based on Sources)

  • Tone: The voice is Serious and Respectful to match the spiritual theme, but Enthusiastic when the user succeeds to build confidence.

  • Plain Language: All technical terms like "Joystick," "Inventory," or "UI" have been replaced with "Lotus," "Offerings," and "Sacred Path" to match the older audience's mental model.

  • Action-Oriented: Every instruction starts with a verb (Move, Follow, Drag, Collect) so there is no confusion about the next step.

Accessibility: All important voice instructions are also shown as simple text on the screen for those with hearing difficulties or in noisy environments.
