TWO Scraptastic Projects (many more in idea form!)

Two of my projects for "someday" got attention today, and I was so happy to repurpose some supplies I have been saving for ages in new ways. Scraps used included lace and ribbon, old patterned paper, labels and two recycled notebooks! The cover for Book One is above. The inside cover and page in progress are below.

Inside cover os glued together with and a sturdy pocket, all made with leftover scrapbook papers Also, the "title page" components, again, leftovers from at least 20 years ago, along with a few embellishments for that page. I will probably spread those across the page, inspired by the idea from class to make a border. The anchor piece for this embellishment area will match pocket added to the inside front cover.

Book two, below, was a 2023 calendar.  I liked the image on the book, so I kept that and made new labels for the front and back to cover the old stuff. I love pocket pages, so both front and back covers have pockets with torn paper waiting for journaling notes. Since I took the staples out, I had to stich papers back inside, and here's where I made a mistake, but no biggie. I accidentally threaded my needle with actual metal thread instead of regular thin, gold cord. Awkward! I covered the lumpy middle with leftover ribbon, and that was that. I clipped each edge of pages to round them so they matched the look of my base book. I was overjoyed to use paper scraps for all the pages and for the pockets.

This class was a wonderful way to get me thinking about how to use up the scrappy leftovers creatively. Both larger and small "books" will be used for sketching and journaling. I am a former writing teacher, and a journal for me has always been about a place to WRITE stuff, but you can bet new ones will be visually more interesting than simply text on a page.

Thanks for an inspiring class that will continue to provide me with cool ideas and less waste of materials better used for creativity.
