TENNIS STAR - CLOTHING PROJECT!

First of all... another incredible class for me.

Fabric and movement have been challenges of mine, so this class was exactly what I needed.

Here are my general class notes.

I found it helped to imagine little scenarios for each character based on their clothing as I went through the examples. The t-shirt was a teenage boy, in awe of his favourite car speeding past or his crush passing him in the cafeteria, stunned, hanging there. The shirt felt more stuffy and professional, so I went with a drawing of the bank clerk at my local branch! The hoodie was based on how I used to do my hair MANY years ago, in my oversized hoodie phase.TENNIS STAR - CLOTHING PROJECT! - image 2 - student project

The cowgirl style, country shirt was where I chose to show the passage of time, I imagined she had been out tending to animals, or whatever it is that ranch girls do (we don't have them in the UK).

For my class project, I felt like a sport or activity would be a good way of finding a pose that would naturally cause fabric movement. This is my tennis star, mid strike! TENNIS STAR - CLOTHING PROJECT! - image 4 - student project

Going forward -- I think if I'm really struggling with the item of clothing, then my plan will be to draw it out static like we did in the class examples to start, and mark out the points of tension, until it becomes natural in my sketching.
