I recorded a clip in a small, echoey bedroom with traffic outside the window, so I started by removing the traffic rumble from the background of the dialogue using the sound isolator and removal effects.

It sounded a bit boxy to me, like I could hear the sound bumping off of the walls around me, so I used the equalizer to isolate what *I thought* was the problem area (around the 515Hz range) and brought that Q value down until it sounded a bit more natural.

Finally, I compressed the dialogue slightly: I brought down some of the peaks and then increased the output gain.

I can see how it’ll take time to develop an ear for this; especially being able to recognize what it is that’s wrong with your sound, rather than just knowing that **something** is off.
