Sketchbook Adventures

Sketching holiday memories 2025:

It's been so fun to sketch some of the memories our family has made so far this holiday season: from putting up the Christmas tree (our cat's new favorite spot to curl up), to piano recitals, and holiday school concerts. Next up, decorate the cover of my handmade sketchbook to reflect the festive season. 😊❄️

Updates:

I love taking my handmade sketchbooks on various art adventures. For this one, we had visited the Chicago Institute of Art to see their Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit. I decided to dedicate a sketchbook spread to some of her art that we saw in the exhibit. I drew this in the car on the ride home. I love that because I only used line and framed out the images, it focuses on the shapes she created in her works. I went back through my camera roll on the drive to pull out photos I had taken while walking through the exhibit.

Original project:

I've had so much fun taking these mini sketchbooks everywhere as I've drawn in the car, on vacation visiting family, while at my kiddos lessons, and at home during lunch.

Where have you been using your sketchbook? What type of paper did you put inside it? I'm excited to make more with watercolor paper for some urban sketching now that it's warming up in Michigan.

This summer I've enjoyed even more road trip sketching, sketching at the beach, and even while on a sailboat.
