Seattle 4040

SKETCHING AND BRAINSTORMING:Seattle 4040 - image 1 - student project

For this project, I decided to animate my own hometown - Seattle, WA.

What's funny about Seattle is, I didn't have to really alter the architecture too much to make a lot of items "feel" futuristic. We still have a lot of buildings/structures that were constructed for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, which had a "futuristic" theme in itself. The space needle and the science arches are to the left of the image, which are both from the World's Fair.

I envisioned a future where the top of the Space Needle, which is a rotating restaurant, might have clones that can take off and fly on their own like helicopters, so I created duplicate restaurants/observation decks in my sketch.

I also included a 1962 object that no longer exists, but was very futuristic in design for it's time: The Bubbleator, which was an elevator at the Seattle Center. In my Seattle future, The Bubbleator makes a comeback, but it acts more like the elevator from Willy Wonka - flying and moving in any direction as it shows people the skyline.

I took the basic shape of a Washington State ferry, and gave it a more sleek look, almost like what a submarine might look like. Who knows, maybe ferries of the future can also go underwater...

And as a final bonus (since I've been learning to animate GIFs recently), I decided to take it into After Effects and give it some light and quick animation movement.
