Drawing exercises: shading objects and figure drawing

Hello Istanus, today I finally found some time to give feedback to your project so lets start. :) First of all, I think this is great start but here are the things I believe you should work on. 1. I'm not sure what is the main subject of your drawing, it can't be the photographer since there is so little of his face visible and the back part of his head is cut off and it can't be the camera since the front of camera is also cut off. What I would suggest is to make an overall shape in which you'll place all the main elements like this: <img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/bf402796" alt="bf402796" /> or in your case:<img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/c9e2cbf2" alt="c9e2cbf2" /> the trick is to look at your subject and try to find simpler shape or shapes to place your drawing into. That way, no element of your drawing is going to fall off the page. Problem when working from photos is that some parts of the object are already cut off so what I can suggest is to work from nature and draw objects that you place in front of you. If you like to draw camera, fine, place it in front of you, on a table and then draw. 2. There are some problem with the perspective on the camera. I believe what you should do is to go back to simple shapes and think about how they form the shape of the lens. Avoid details. The overall shape of the camera is more important. Getting all the elements on the right place in the beginning of drawing is the most important part of this process. Here is what I'm saying, curves of lens are not in line with surface elements on it. They also should follow the curve of the lens. Also I think some certain lines on the flash should be more parallel : <img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/fbca6a4a" alt="fbca6a4a" /> Try drawing with harder pencil in the start and just lightly draw these simple shapes and when you're satisfied use a softer pencil with more pressure. More about using different pencils you'll see in my new class that I'll start filming tomorrow. :)     <img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/5e592203" alt="5e592203" /> 3. Finally, think about the shape of the hand and all the elements that form a hand. Then see how to shade it. Here is my quick example of construction lines and remember to make variations in thickness of lines. Not all of them should have the same: <img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/367c09a1" alt="367c09a1" /> At the and let's talk about hair. It is not a firm shape with solid edges so try to think about the texture of it.  <img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/05c6973215e01feaea1c84502394339b/dbe9a716" alt="dbe9a716" /> Sure, make that line so that you know where to place hair but do it lightly and then, in this case at least, add shorter lines to get that feel of hair flow. I'm sorry if this was too long but I think you could really improve with some more practice and work. Thank you for the feedback and i must say, before reading this, i almost thought am becoming a pro just in a few month. It's good to get a professional opinion on what you do, because i believe is what will make me grow, i'll work on the feedback and improve the suggested parts.
