Being pleased with your first try is a huge win: that positive energy is exactly what makes the learning process effective. Your illustration style is wonderful; the choice of a bold, saturated red is stunning and gives the piece a very high-energy, modern feel. Your use of thick, clean outlines creates a fantastic effect that defines each petal clearly. If you would add even more dimension in the future, you might try adding a slightly darker shade of red or a touch of purple right where the petals meet the center to create deeper shadows and a more spherical look.  All in all, this is incredibly impressive, and you clearly have a strong eye for color and composition!
