Random Mandalas

Random Mandalas - student project

Create a freehand mandala by starting with a basic shape in the center and adding layers of the 5 basic shapes. All you need is a blank sheet of paper and a felt tip pen. As you can see, I've added a few layers to the manadla I started in the video.

I started this one with lines in the center, forming a square. The mandala still turns out round as I add other shapes.

I started this one with lines in the center as well, but formed a star. You can begin with any shape in the center and still create a mandala. Use your imagination!

Open mandalas look great colored in. I used Prismacolor colored pencils for this one.

As you get more proficient, you can add shading and coloring and create off-center mandalas.
