Portrait of Robert Frost
This is the photograph I worked from.
Here's the painting with just gouache before adding colored pencil (and before erasing my pencil marks). I chose to use ordinary pencil instead of colored pencil for the basic drawing, but used Weronika's method of adding the shadows in first where I think I would usually do them later.
And here's my final piece. I really like how the colored pencil helps give definition and depth and the use of both warm and cool colors of colored pencil simultaneously. I often add decorative backgrounds to my portraits like Weronika did, but for some reason liked the spare look of the plain background here.
