Paper Mache Sculptures
*Work In Progress*
In this class we will learn how to use recycled and everyday materials to make beautiful works of art!
This is a great class for beginners with no experience, and anyone who has experience but wants to take it to the next level.
We will learn:
The basics of Paper Mache crafting.
How to use simple shapes to make 3D forms.
How to use recycled materials for sculpting.
Why paper mache??
Paper Mache is CHEAP! Clays and other sculpting materials can get so expensive! Learning how to craft with materials around your house can save you so much money! You do not need any special equipment to accomplish something awesome.
It is also STRONG. Mixing paper mache and cardboard makes extremely sturdy structures. It’s perfect for building large and also fairly lightweight.
You can make something amazing, and then tell everyone you made it out of garbage. How cool is that??
Yeah. Paper mache is the best.
(These photos are examples of much larger animal busts that I have made from paper mache.)
(I plan on adding pictures of the actual project soon.)
For this class we will make small animal sculptures.
I chose this project because it can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Easy for beginners, but can also be embellished by more advanced artists.
Materials Needed:
Paper (newspaper, magazines, brown paper...)
Painters Tape.
Paper Mache paste (I will list recipes to pick from).
Paints for decorating at the end.
(Materials can vary based on what you have already available!)
For my demos I will be sculpting a cat, which can be broken down into very easy shapes so beginners will have no problem following along with me!
I’ll show you how I can use these same shapes to make a variety of different animals, so you can pick any animal you want.
If you're feeling confident, go BIG!
Once you know the basics of working with paper mache you can use these skills to make anything, not just animals. Home decor, ornaments, props, costumes, masks, even furniture!
