Painting Lilies

I used Baohong Masters' Choice 300gsm 100% cotton cold-pressed paper in size 42x32 cm, and Daniel Smith's and Schmincke's tube watercolors.

I love lilies so as soon as Chris published the class, I put everything else aside and jumped on it. I hope Chris won't mind me going in a different direction again with my project, but since I've been painting for a while now, I wanted to challenge myself and try to do something "extra". While getting ready for the class, I ended up playing with filters on my phone on Chris' finished painting and this is what popped out:

(Chris' original painting next to the "edited with a filter" picture. I used the mobile app "InCollage".)

So that's what I chose as my reference. While I love the colors on the filtered version as they are, I did end up changing the colors a bit while painting, kinda brightening them up a bit. Honestly I'm happy with my result, but I just hope Chris won't find it offensive that I didn't go with his colors, because I love those too!

This took me several days to figure all out, some of the color gradients were really unusual, like going from orange to minty green to violet gray, so I tried to be very careful in not making them muddy. I think I succeeded pretty well. Doing anything "on my own"/different from given instructions has been terrifying and my similar attempts haven't gone all that great in the past, plus I tend to leave many of them unfinished when I struggle with them. So now I'm proud when I even finish one! Liking what I've done is just a bonus at this point. :)

Thank you for yet another awesome class, Krzysztof! :)
