Oranges

For this class, I painted a pair of oranges, one whole and one freshly cut, to capture their bright color and the speckled texture of the rind in a soft, painterly flat style.

I’m happy with the lively contrast between the juicy orange flesh and the muted green background, as well as the speckled texture that keeps the composition playful, though next time I’d like to refine the slice’s edges and add a bit more shadow and highlight contrast to give the fruit more depth while keeping the gouache feel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the process and learned a great deal from this class. Thank you!
