Hi Kris - I thought I'd already commented on this, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, I do like the round paper and it works really well on this subject. I think your whites look great actually, and you've some nice pale tints of colour on it too. The little house is all aglow and welcoming, and your little family sets it all off beautifully - and tells a story. Oh, weird, you absolutely gave me feedback. But I have a question. That orange wedge on the right looks kind of odd to me. Does it need a fuzzy black band on the top for more contrast? I decided the proportions on my people are off to be a family but might work for four kids with folks in the cabin.

Re the orange wedge : if it bothers you too much, pre-wet the left side of the paper with  clean water first - ie, wet over the whole orange area and about 4inches beyond - then stroke in some darker colour over the top of the orange shape and let it blend in. I rather like the orange as it marries with the glow from the house, so don't lose too much of it. I think your family sizes are fine, there's definitely a dad in the yellow jacket, a mom in the red one and two youngsters. Your painting exudes warmth and atmosphere, and that's what draws the viewer in. Carrie

Thank you Carrie, you have a better eye  for balance, this will come to me with experience I hope, perhaps I will think on it. I appreciate knowing how to correct things though and I loved your multiple photo references with little people! I might have to buy more round paper. Ive only used it when I ran out of my other blocks but it is fun. What would not be fun is paying to have one of these round paintings framed, lol. Probably cost a fortune. Thanks again for taking the time. There is such an amazing array of paintings for this tutorial but even in there differences they are bonded by the warm little cabin and the awe inspired aurora borealis.

Love this &amp; love the round paper! I'm hoping that the cosy house belongs to this family, so they can go in and get warm with hot chocolate and marshmallows!! Great painting, Kris :)

Thanks Joanne! Haha, yes, As I look at it, it must be 4 kids based on the size of my people. Parents are waiting inside with warm soup and hot chocolate, and of course msrshmallows!

Hi Kris - this is a great painting, and it really suits the round paper. Your snow look great actually, using Dr PHM is one of the best mediums for recovering white, I haven't come across anything better, and if it does the job no need to worry. I like the colourful highlights you've added to the snow, the little house just glows with light from within, and the inclusion of the family gives it a story. Well done on another lovely painting, your techniques are improving every time I see your painting, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do next!  Thank you, Teresa. Round paper,I know, right! It feels like I am looking through a telescope or something. It's Magnani 1404 Italian 140lb watercolor paper on a block. Its 100% cotton and cold press and its big 12" plus in diameter. When you psaint this the little family is in on one the example photos!

Ok, this round paper I bought is starting to grow on me,Lol. This was so much fun to paint with Carrie. I had so much fun in fact that i obliterated my white which messed up my brightness. So I did a  hocky thing and added Dr. PH Martin bleed proof with to try to bring some back. I might have to use masking fluid to keep my white next time. The cute little family in the photo examples wanted to look at the Northern Lights so I put them in.
