Network Devices

1: Hub and Switch:

A Hub and a Switch are both networking devices used to connect multiple devices to a network. The main difference between the two is in the way they handle data transmission.

A Hub broadcasts data to all connected devices in the network, whereas a Switch forwards data only to the intended recipient. This means that a Switch is more efficient in transmitting data, as it avoids unnecessary broadcast traffic, resulting in faster and more reliable network performance.

2: Network Bridge:

A Network Bridge is a device that connects two or more network segments together, allowing them to communicate as a single network. The role of a Bridge is to forward data between the segments, while also filtering and directing traffic to prevent unnecessary data transmissions.

Bridges are commonly used in LANs (Local Area Networks) to extend the network coverage and improve the overall network performance.

3: Functioning of Router:

A Router is a networking device that connects multiple networks together, allowing data to be transmitted between them. The main function of a Router is to direct traffic between networks based on their addresses.

Routers use routing tables to determine the best path for data transmission, taking into account factors such as network topology, traffic load, and network protocols. They also provide security features such as NAT (Network Address Translation) and firewall protection.

4: Device used in a network for Security:

Firewalls are the primary devices used for network security. A Firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic, based on predetermined security rules.

Firewalls can be hardware or software-based and are used to protect networks from unauthorized access, malware, and other security threats.

5: A device used to regenerate the signal if the signal loss is there:

A Repeater is a device used to regenerate the signal if there is a signal loss in a network. Repeaters amplify and regenerate signals to extend their reach, allowing them to travel longer distances without degradation.

Repeaters are commonly used in LANs and WANs (Wide Area Networks) to extend the coverage of the network and improve the overall signal strength

6: Role of straight and cross cable:

Straight cables are used to connect different types of networking devices, such as a computer to a switch or a router to a modem. The pins at both ends of the cable are arranged in the same order, allowing the devices to communicate effectively.

Cross cables are used to connect similar types of networking devices, such as a computer to another computer or a switch to another switch. In cross cables, the pins at one end of the cable are arranged in a different order from the other end, allowing the devices to communicate effectively.
