My mixed Media Postcards

My mixed Media Postcards - student project

I chose to cut the paper into four pieces before i started working on them. I still did the painted backgrounds as a batch though. I really enjoyed using the card technique to spread the paint! My mixed Media Postcards - image 1 - student projectThis is the first one I completed. I used some stamping over the painted background- I'm really pleased with how the script stamp looks. I stuck brown paper to a used train ticket and then drew standing stones on it.

I used watered down acrylic paint over the mushroom caps to help them stand out from the background. the stronger white highlights are done with gel pen. The newspaper was coloured with watercolours.

My mixed Media Postcards - image 3 - student projectThis is the third one after the background had dried. The shape of the paint in the bottom right corner reminded me of the side of a house so I decided to base the postcard around that.

My mixed Media Postcards - image 4 - student projectI was originally planning on drawing a street outside but the painted background looked more like a hill or cliffs. I was then reminded of Botallack mine in Cornwall. I had seen some pictures of the buildings on the cliffs previously. I was referencing a picture of Botallack whilst doing the postcard. I wanted this one to be simple so the drawing still stood out, so to finish it I added a die-cut to the top left corner.

I blended green ink into the centre after it dried because it looked too empty without it.

I started this one by adding the newspaper and washi tape. I chose to 'age' the newspaper a bit with brown ink. After that I just added a variety of stamps and a bit more ink blending.

I chose not to use many layers in my postcards because I don't like things to be too 'busy'. I also wanted to challenge myself to work with the background rather than covering it up.
