This is so lovely! You did an excellent job painting a tricky color.  Yes- shadow violet is totally an experience!  I use it for all my shadow colors since I teach in person Paint your Pet nights here in Madison, WI.  I have gotten used to the variation in colors as my shadow violet dries with some patches being darker and others being lighter- but it does take a little bit to get used to.   For your cat's painting, I definitely would suggest using a white gouache or gel pen for the eyebrow whiskers.  I personally think using masking fluid for them makes them too bright and that can detract from your focus on the eyes themselves.  That could be why you see the eyes as looking 'wonky'.  I also would try to keep them a little more diagonal so they mimic more the curve of the upper eye.   If you wanted to try and fix that right eye, you can definitely do so even after it's finished!  That's one of the benefits of using lunar black- it lifts really easily.  You could use a damp brush and wet the upper left, inside of the right eye. By lifting up some of that black from the inside, you will turn the almond shaped eye into a more rounded one- making it more similar to the left eye.  I routinely have to go back and rework my pet portrait eyes to make them more symmetrical- and I usually don't rely on my reference photo for that, but I choose the eye I like the best and I try to mimic the shape in the other.   Sorry for the long comment!  I hope you share the painting of your tuxedo cat to this class.

I have wanted to try this as i have a 19yr old tuxedo and hope now to try her eventually.
I ordered shadow violet and lunar black specifically fir this project. That shadow violet is an experience especially how it separates into many colors. I did use masking fluid for all whiskers. My eyes a bit wonky but overall I am pleased. Great class and great handouts for future reference.
